So many good choices. A few favorites:

1) 512 (Austin) - Pecan Porter is great. Nut brown too. But the Whiskey Barrel Aged Double Pecan Porter is my all time favorite beer.
2) Franconia (McKinney) - Love their straightforward style and adherence to the German purity law. Dunkel or even better yet (when available), their triple Dunkel.
3) Real Ale (Blanco) Brewhouse Brown.

Bankhead Brewing Co. in Rowlett because it's only a couple of miles from where I live and they have some decent craft beers.

Any other interest in reviving this old thread?

We visited our son in San Angelo last year and stayed at the Old Central Firehouse Bed & Brew after watching a Texas Bucket List epsiode about it. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay and the Pizzeria & Taproom. We did get a pickle pizza and it was good!

I'm guessing there are other places that have a self pour tap wall but that's the only time I've been to a place that had it. You get a card to use the wall and it tracks what beers and how many ounces you get and then you pay for your total when done. And interestingly, it will automatically cut you off if you get too many ounces. Enjoyed a few different craft beers there!

Every time I do the craft / micro brewery thing I end up thinking I would rather had a Shiner Bock. Some of the craft stuff is ok. However, getting it is limited and expensive. A lot of it just isn’t very good.

I am consistent on what I like for drinks. Not big on variety. For beer Shiner Bock. For soft drink Diet Mt Dew. For Mixed drink either a Crown and Diet Coke or Margarita.

I will put Diet Mt Dew, Cointreau and Hornitos Plata Tequila together for a margarita like drink. I like it. Pretty cheap drink. Mix it in 32 Oz Yeti type cup.

I was in a craft beer bar with some of the younger crowd at work not long ago. They were ordering craft beer or those nasty seltzers. One remarked,” I can’t believe you are going to order a Shiner Bock, try something different”. My reply was “I know what I like.”

Olds….lol.

My favorite is when we head down 281 to visit family in Bulverde near San Antonio. The Real Ale Brewing Company. They are in Blanco a cool little town along the way. They have some really good beers, my favorite is Firemans Light and some great Whiskey. Inside where you buy products they have a walkway overlooking all of the machinery.
A large area outside with tables etc. As far as food I was disappointed when all I saw was a Truck selling Cajun food. That was until I got my order and started eating it. It ended up being some of the best Cajun food I've ever eaten. Definitely an awesome place off of the beaten path with great beer and Whiskey.
Real Ale Brewing Co. 231 San Saba Ct. Blanco, Tx. 830-833-2534
