Maybe this is an ignorant question, but why are folks raising the kayak’s seat? More room to cast? Im bout to revamp my ride, so I’m looking for ascend upgrade ideas. My leds will be replaced, perhaps lift the seat with some angle iron? Idk, what do my fellow angling engineers suggest?
Folks raise the seat for comfort and vantage point. Also, if you like to stand from time to time, a higher seat makes it easier to transition from sitting to standing.
If you raise the seat, be mindful of the center of gravity... I don't think a couple of inches will make much difference, but 4 to 6 inches can really affect the stability of your ride.
Ideally, you can come up with a "high/low" mod... meaning, having the ability to drop the seat to a lower position when the water gets rough is optimal. However, this type of mod can be complicated and is not always possible.
