Has anyone pulled a bass boat with a Chevrolet Colorado with the high output engine?

I have a 2017 gmc canyon with the 3.6L V6 and tow package that I pull a ZX225 Skeeter with and it does fine. It has a max tow capacity of 7600 lbs.

My buddy pulls his 19’6” Champion with a Colorado, it actually pulls very well.

I've pulled boats with smaller vehicles. Pulling is not usually an issue. I'd be concerned with breaking capability with that boat breathing down on you.

Yeah me too. lol but it seems GMC puts bigger rotors on their trucks. I got 120k out of the first set and didn’t warp them like I have other brand larger trucks and suvs at lower miles. I tend to drive everything 0-wot and back 😂 I was concerned about this when I bought the canyon but it has done really well towing and stopping. Of course a bigger platform would perform a bit better and if I were towing long distances frequently I would go with something bigger.

Eagle fish you should watch the TFL channel on YouTube, they’ve done a lot of towing tests with that truck and Andre had the mid power version. Bottom line it will easily tow and stop a bass boat.

It’s a body on frame truck, it’s has more horsepower/torque and towing capacity than full-size half tons did 20 years ago.

I used to tow a boat with a ‘76 F100 with a 6cyl engine. Heavy jet boat with no trailer brakes. The F100 pulled and stopped it just fine. Even used a bumper hitch.

I’d imagine my wife’s Lexus hybrid could tow better than that F100. I’d also imagine the Colorado/Canyon could do just fine. I have a friend that towed his new Nitro Z18 with his wife’s demo Honda “cruck”. The first one was fwd, we had to help him up the ramp. She swapped it for an awd and it could barely pull up the ramp. Those Honda Ridgeline are gay as can be. I heard Hyundai has a “cruck”’too.

El Camino was the OG cruck now we have Honda Ridgelines and Chevy Colorados. If you want a truck, buy a truck, not a cruck!

I towed a 17' Skeeter, a Ranger 350 and a Ranger R80 about 150k miles with my Toyota five speed and 22RE 2.4 fuel injected engine.
It did just fine till the radiator blew a hole in it at 240k miles. The radiator I replaced it with did not have the same abilities of the original so it got hot once and blew a head gasket. I replaced the head gasket and instead of putting a larger radiator in it I bought my Dodge diesel.

That truck did just fine for my needs. It fished tournaments in Tex, Ok, MO, Ark and one in Tennessee.
I used to call turning off the AC on hills my overdrive. I could tell the engine fell off less on hills with the AC off.



IMO a Colorado should pull most any bass boat ok if you don't want to compete for hp.

Since the OP didn’t ask if a Chevy Colorado was as good at towing as my 2019 Dodge Diesel 3500 dually I will answer his question specifically. 1st what size bass boat are we talking about? A 16’ tin boat on a single axle trailer? Any minivan/car with a hitch will pull that. If you’re talking about my 21’ Ranger on a tandem axle trailer than you want a truck. Anyone who thinks you NEED a HD(2500-3500) truck to pull a bass boat is delusional. WANT and NEED are not the same. You don’t NEED my truck that’s rated to tow a 30,000lb back hoe on a gooseneck trailer to pull your 3500lb fishing rig! My next door neighbor has a newer model Chevy Colorado and he pulls a travel trailer with it and says it does fine. His travel trailer is a little heavier than a full sized fiberglass bassboat and catches WAY more wind on the highway and his Colorado does just fine. As said: a Colorado is a slightly smaller truck with a real frame(not unibody construction) with a motor and transmission rated for up to 7,700 lbs of towing capacity. A 21’ fiberglass bassboat rig will be under 1/2 that. So without making this a “truck towing comparison” the answer is YES. I do know someone who tows with a Chevy Colorado and they are pleased with it. Good luck on whatever direction you go! Neil.
