Spent some time earlier this month in Ruidoso, NM and this fine looking gentleman greeted us just after sunrise outside our hotel room.

What a great sighting. Collared Peccary (javelina) are one of my favorite animals. I really like them. The javelina is expanding its range in New Mexico and they are showing up in areas outside their documented range. It would be great if you would contact the Wildlife Department about your sighting. Here is their contact information:

Game and Fish is asking the public to report any sighting of javelina and to document it with pictures. If you document a javelina, you can send the information to the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, One Wildlife Way, Santa Fe, NM 87507 in C/O Wildlife Management Division.

Congratulations on the picture.

That is fantastic. Now when the new range map comes out, you will know you helped make that happen.
