Starting in January typically just after the first good rush of flood water into the creeks around Central Texas the whitebass begin moving up and into the spawning areas. It can happen quickly and sometimes ends just as fast.. Monday I zeroed but Friday for the third week in a row we found cooperative fish a long way upstream...

What a beautiful day immersed in the baptism of spring.
As much as I love fishing the Brazos river below the Lake Whitney dam, I do not like being skunked. So when the Brazos river isn't producing for whatever reason I'll go elsewhere.. 30 miles northwest of the Lake Whitney dam is the little town of Blum, Texas on the banks of the Nolan river.. To my surprise I had a section of the Nolan all to myself and I found fish just a few minutes after wading into the river.

I can tell you all that the whitebass spawning run is following the typical timeframe.. Slowing in the southwest and peaking northeast .. The run will probably be mostly complete by the next full moon.. I’m finding fish that show all the signs of spawning stress and fatigue. A really good rush of flood water will ensure the success of the spawn and push the fish back out of the creeks to the lake where the shad spawn will bring them to the shoreline every morning for some fast action on the fly!

There are lots of new fly fishermen & women that started after watching your adventures. You really do a great job of capturing the entire experience. Not just catching fish. I know your videos got me really excited about exploring new creeks and areas off the beaten path. Thank you Sir.
