Buddy and I hit Lake Conroe today. My schedule doesn't allow me to hit the lake before 11am.

When we arrive the lake was smooth, but it was a horrible color! There was plenty of dead vegetation floating everywhere too!

I spoke with a guy who seemed to know a bit about fishing for Hybrids. His poles had the right baits on them. He knew what water depth to fish this time of year and knew instantly what the water temp was.

I marked 58 to 61 degrees. The gentleman said he had not had a bite all day, but did well when the lake was 45 degrees before the rain. He felt the dirty water was the key reason no bites!

So I felt the warmer water might shallow up the Hybrids, but finding clean water was my first goal!

Found some water that was not too bad and some marks in 25fow. I caught a 20" and lost a Hybrid. But I missed several bites deadsticking. During that brief time I put two 20" class Blue Cats in the box!

The bite was slow so we decided to see if we could find some better action.

We broke the golden file of fishing, we left fish to fish fish!

From 1pm to 5pm not another bite!

I wonder how long the it will take the water return to a normal color?

More rain this weekend, that probably wonโ€™t help. Watch out for floaters too, they are everywhere.

I was catching 30-40-50 fish each trip during and after the holidays with Texcajun.
I hope they have not washed thru the dam. Great fun with a 20# blue cat as well.
all dead sticking .2-.3mph drifting

I'm also wondering if there is a big difference between the surface and the bottom in 30 to 40 feet of water.

I was struggling with the fine tune on my depth finder. I'm not sure of I was seeing a thermocline around 15 feet or not. When we caught the few fish we did catch, I could see them but there were times I thought I could see fish but no bites!
