Beavers Bend Fly Shop Message Board has all the information you’re looking for.

You have to reserve your campsite before you go. I doubt the park will be full that time of year, but you never know.

I took a day trip a few weeks back, and the area I fished the trout were very selective. I had to go to a 6X tippet and size 18 to 20 rs2 and wd40’s fished with a dry fly as an indicator. The fish were very line shy, and indicators would spook them, too. I love swinging a soft hackles in the current, and a size 16, 18, and 20 soft hackles brought some action. Beware. The fish hit soft hackles so hard, you have to let the line slip through your fingers at first. Otherwise, you’ll break right off.

Fiah small rs2and emerger patterns etc like said above. The smallest you can find ie 22 or 24 if you can find them. Also, a pats rubber legs works well as a top fly. I fish a 2 or 3 nymph indicator rig. Bring a few small bwo dry flies i case you see some surface activity.

Neighbor has 1 maybe 2 rental cabins up there. He told me that he can't hardly use them himself because they stay rented.

I was there mid week for a few days before New Years. Man, the park and restaurants were packed the whole time. Mostly people hiking and taking pictures, certainly not the same place where I used to go to get my trout fix in.

Regardless, the trout are still there. I have my honey holes, but even now gotta to watch my backcast for hikers.. smile. Wooly buggers, small nymphs, tiny rs2s, the usual work for me until I had to move due to the crowds.

Still a beautiful place, but I enjoyed the Blue River more this time of the year.

The Blue River is better always than LMF. Too bad it’s only a winter fishery for trout.

I love the Blue also but would not say better than the LMF. Last time I fished the LMF a couple weeks ago it wasn’t as busy as the Blue. Glad I have both fairly close. I think they both are very nice in their own ways

I was speaking in terms of crowds and should have clarified. Now if Spillway creek had catch and release regs, the place would be great. For those who like solitude, Blue all the way.

I completely agree with, "Too bad it’s only a winter fishery for trout," and that is why I am going to spend some spring time chasing other species there, like smallmouth. Went today with the aim of catching those mysterious smallies, and could only manage a few synthetic fish (aka. stockers). Strange day all-in-all.

That is strange. Son and I went yesterday 2-1-2024 and fished the southern wilderness area. We were after your synthetic fish but my first one landed was a smallie lol

I had an epic day at Beavers Bend yesterday. My wife’s cousin was in from Colorado, and between the two of us, at least 3 dozen bruiser ‘bows were brought to hand.

My flies of choice were soft hackles swung in the current and zebra midges fished about 18 inches below a strike indicator.

I did notice that they had removed the stop logs at the miniature golf / swim beach area.

All fish were CPR’ed.
