It is not looking good for pecans this year. When I saw mine drying out and dropping off the trees a month ago I figured the crop might be 10 to 15% versus last year. 2 weeks ago I started to get more hopeful when my trees still had a fair number of green ones. After I started to harvest some that the crows and squirrels dropped I am going to revise the 10 to 15% to zero. I cracked open 6 and not one was good.

Pulled a few off my trees yesterday that were ready to open up and drop. They were sprouting in the husk while still on the tree. I have never seen that before. Pecans should have dropped 2 weeks ago. I planted 2 in containers.

Saw a guy in Oklahoma the other day say they have 24 rows of pecans on about 25 ac and only 8 rows produced this year because of the drought.

Bad year for fruit and nut trees period. The 105 degree plus heat over that long of a time was detrimental to em all. Fruit trees are even more susceptible to bad weather, than nut trees. Too much rain will cause mold on fruit. If I had to do it all over again, I would have planted pecan trees in lieu of Peach Trees.

Last year was a complete bust in Collin County it seems. I'm running my Mom's Pecan cracking business now and we had 1 single customer last fall/winter when many years there are 100s. This year we've at least seen signs of life. Have cracked for 8-10 customers so far and anticipate the next few weeks will tell us what the season will look like. There are still alot of pecans on trees around the Princeton/Farmersville/Blue Ridge area, so we're hopeful. If you're interested in getting your pecans Cracked/Shelled/and Blown in that area, my website is: Collin County Pecan Company

I still have a few pecans on my trees. Last year they had all dropped weeks ago.

Best deal on pecans right now is costco. 2lbs for 12.99. They will deliver free if you order over 65.00
