For some unknown reason I have been checking the Solunar fishing tables lately. Today, I wanted to go later in the day but the best wind forecast was in the morning so I checked the tables & the major feeding period was supposed to be between 7:30 am & 9:30 am. So up at 3:30 (am) and at the lake just b4 sunrise. Caught 36 bass...18 between 7 & 12 noon & 18 between 12 noon & 3:30 pm with the biggest bass (5.9 lbs.) coming in the afternoon. Second biggest was 4.7 lbs. & lots of fish between 2 & 3.5 lbs. So, bottom line is that you can't believe everything you read even though a lot of people swear by these tables. Tons of people on the lake today & the few I talked to didn't do that good. The water temp had dropped to 59 degrees from 65 last week. The bites were VERY light...if you felt anything at all a hook set was needed quickly. Tried my favorite sunfish spot to see if maybe some males were starting to stage, but no bites at all. They don't like 59 degree water !

I fish when I have the opportunity, so I don’t consider solar tables, moon phase, temperature, fronts, barometric pressure, farmers almanac, east wind, cloudy skies, sunshine, or cows laying down. grin I am not saying these things don’t effect fishing, I just don’t take the time to study them. I have caught fish when “conditions” were bad and didn’t catch anything when “conditions” were great. I am not trying to avoid the solunar tables issue, I just haven’t checked them enough to have an opinion. Some of the things I do watch are lightening, wind, and wave height, for safety reasons.

On our way to Amistad last Sunday we actually counted 5 squished skunks on the road and we caught 5 bass. Coincidence? I think you need to apply for that federal funding . I'm sure Joe would approve loco
