It was the best of times, it was the worst of times... but mainly the worst. Tough week at work... too much, too many miles, too many people had forgotten they had made appointments and never remembered to cancel and reset.. lots of wasted time and some 17 hour days. Was so beat up I didnt feel like driving very far to fish so I decided to fish Palestine, Kickapoo ramp. Leave the house around 9:00 a.m., drive for half an hour and something isnt right...where am I? Realize I am on the road to Palestine the city and not on the road to Frankston and the lake.. about a 40 minute mistake after a half hour of driving... Oh well, find a road to cut across that I had never been on and it was a beautiful morning. It started getting ugly the closer I got to the lake.. drive over the bridge at Ledbetter and there are boats everywhere.. lots of traffic on roads, the ramp at bridge over Flat creek is packed.. This was ramp at Kickapoo.. Long story short, caught one small bass, one catfish, got cut off by gar.. had to paddle a couple of miles to get away from all the peoples.. bass boats with rooster tails trying to get unstuck, duck boats blasting thru to check their jug lines all up and down the creek channel, it was awful.. by 3:00 all the bass boats were gone, but those guys with mud motors were still running wide open checking their jugs… what a day.. may never fish Kickapoo again. I’m blaming the full moon.

The fish may not have been biting, but always much nicer than being at work...

[quote=GTrigg] The fish may not have been biting, but always much nicer than being at work... [/quote I dont believe there were many fish where I was... not hardly any signs of life.. not even many carp or gar, compared to previous years at this time. Grass is gone, silted in, had graph in the channels, no bait, not even before sundown was there any activity. Caught the cat under the tree with comorants coming in.. always exciting to throw something under those trees as they poop up the water..

Thanks for the report and the pics! My favorite lake. Zeroing on Palestine is 100% better than a good day's work at my desk.

I think ledbetter would have been a lot better... at least some deeper water nearby... not even the crappie folks at kickapoo were happy.
