Need some help on AGM batteries. I have the lead acid batteries now but wanting to switch to the AGM. Not wanting to jump up to lithium right now. My current lead acids I have a cranking and deep cycles. Looking at AGMs I see a deep cycle and dual purpose. Is the dual purpose a cranking battery. It says it can be used as cranking or trolling battery. So should I get 1 dual for cranking & 2 deep cycles for trolling or 3 of the same dual purpose?

Dual for cranking. Cycle for trolling.

Sam’s had Duracell AGM at good prices. They are made by Deka. I got 6 years out of a set of Grp 31 on the trolling motor.

Downside is they are heavy. Really heavy.

How many cycles you put the battery thru is a factor in battery life.

this ^ ^ ^ deka is made in pennsylvania, best on the market imo. I had the regular deep cycle/dual purpose before going to lithium.

I don't know what outboard you have. Check your outboard specs for minimum CCAs. Mercury Optimax require 1000.

I bought the X2 Power AGM from Batteries Plus and it’s great. Four year warranty as well.

I would not recommend the X2 as I had one and it was great for a couple of years and that was it....if you run today's big electronics, livewells, etc off cranking battery it is much more cost effective to go lithium......

Get Duracell agm batteries. Batteries plus has them with 30mo warranty and 10% off to a max of $30 off per day. Just buy one battery a day and use discount code to save the most. That what I did and saved about $90 buying 3 batteries over 3x days.

If you have room for large batteries get the agm 31M duracells 110AH 800cca 1000mca, you can troll around for 2+ days without a recharge
Or save $20 bucks and get the Duracell agm 27m 100ah 620cca,still pretty big batteries and can still last 2 days.

My trolling motor Duracell agm group 31M lasted 7 years, one is still technically good just only putting out like 460cca. I just replaced both batteries two days ago with new duracell agm 27m.
I had an Optima blue top 34m starting battery that was 11-12 years old, was getting weak, top plastic housing started cracking around terminal post and leaking acid and corroding the cables, was also replaced with a duracell agm 27m.
Optima are overprice and not made the same as they did 8+ years ago.

I don't know what outboard you are running but my Optimax owners manual states 1000cca minimum.

I actually have an old 1983 mercury black max 150 good old 2 stroke.

Mercury Optimax requires per manual. "The engine must use a marine starting
battery with 1000 MCA, 800 CCA, or 180 Ah rating"

marine cranking amps is not the same as CCA.
