Anybody over in GA today to fish the TAA event on Lanier?
No practice, no waypoints, no scope, no 360. +\- 5k entry fee. 3 day event with a 4 hour ride around the day before it starts.
Gussy is fishing it - he said about 50 or 60 boats had entered

The second tournament they are going to get a full day of practice. I hope the deal succeeds with its jackpot style format that anyone can enter. For it to stick around they’ll need a lot more donaters. To get that they need some title sponsorship to get that entry fee into the 1500ish level, no one is spending 5k unless they think they have a real chance of winning.

With no practice and having to clear waypoints I would think it definitely gives a strong home field advantage to the locals.
Not sure who else is participating.

Drew Cook?
I know Emil does.
Some of these guys are getting on 23-26 pound sacks of spots with their scopes. But they say if you get over them with 2D like you used to be able to they spook. It will be interesting to see how it goes. I think a local will put together a 3 good days.

BPT has 80 anglers. BASS Elites have 100. If this hits 70-80 entries then it's somewhat impressive considering entry fee. Very little advertisement and promotion and still drawing that many is a win.

I agree. I’ll be interested to hear how it goes.
I’m pretty surprised Blaukat didn’t go to bang on his anti scope gong some more, but then again, I’m not.

Hallman didn't fish this one?, guess he is out of the touring pro game, remember when he won that FLW on Lanier. Kinda felt the whole FFS push is what pushed him to retire early, he saw what was coming.

I might have thought it was the fact that his wife makes a lot more than him and he finished at the bottom of the standings. Yeah, why would the bread winner want to deal with work, the kids and everything else, while Bradley was out making next to nothing. Oh that’s right, it was the FFS…

What do you think mark? Pretty good sacks I don't really know much about the lake o.know if it's a strong showing or not. I would always happy with 20lbs personally.

... Thought Johnston was one of the "young" scopers and we were supposed to hate on him??? Nah, the hate flows from the scopers who can't deal with any other views than theirs... Just wait for the NB, olds, cheap, boomer and other derogatory remarks from the scoper fanboys... Dan

He’s finished “in the money” 57 out of 58 events fished. With FFS or without the guy can flat out fish.

Once they get some sponsorship it will be interesting to see if any electronics manufacturers hop on board or if they stay away.

Pretty sure that guys will still use SS,DS,2D and mapping even if they aren't equipped with FFS. Electronics manufacturers might not throw the big bucks that way but I would think they would throw a little at least to a successful circuit.

Maps, but they had to start their ride around the day before competition with all of their waypoints cleared off their graphs.
I think it’s a cool format, and it seems to have gone well. They paid out the top 12 and only 47 competed. I believe $65K for first…not bad.

Heard they put some sort of lockbox on their scoping transducer cable so they didn’t have to take the whole thing off - that sounds smart. Emil Wagner talked about it on BTL

More proof that ffs isn’t hated as much as some claim. Seems to me that it is more proof that there is just a very small percentage of anglers that want to participate in these high entry fee tournaments. The list of organizations that have tried them and failed grows every year.

It’s for heavy hitting touring anglers and deep pocketed locals, and some that really like to risk it for the biscuit. Pretty good payouts really. Top 20% at least doubled their money.

No disagreement here. But it takes a certain threshold of participation. Lots of anglers say they have interest in these things, but when it comes down to actually putting the money on the table the number of actual entries ends up being very low. The list of organizations that have been able to make these high entry fee trails (both team and individual) sustainable is very very short. I think it's a safe bet to assume that 47 entries is not sustainable. Maybe I'm wrong.

I hear ya, on BTL they said they had a bunch sign up, but pulled their names when it was time to pay up. Probably what Randy did. Well they looked at the odds and getting beat by a pro doesn’t look that appealing for 5k. Make it 1500 bucks. Valid argument, but they were targeting professionals. Shows that: 1. FFS isn’t as hated as some claim. 2. Guys are afraid of making sponsors mad. 3 Many have preached for this for years, few have the stones to lose their own money. It would be interesting to hear what their $$$ stop point would be. $1,500-$3,000??? .

Why do the locals need to come off? Honestly just because the convenience factor. If it wasn’t in their backyard, who knows if they would’ve fished it

Ah gotcha. I may have misunderstood.

I enjoy donating but not that much $$$ Plus I think it’s kind of dumb. I really don’t care how other people fish.

Chris Johnston, Joey Cifuentes, Hank Cherry from the Elites as well. Good catch. Chris is Christopher on one list and Chris on the other. Joey the III on one and not the other, Hank is a Jr on one and not on the other.

From the sounds of it, some of the locals are real hammer sticks. It will be interesting to see where the next event will be and how the turnout is.
