65# test braid is like 15# - 17# test mono or fluro depending on what brand you choose. Is that too thick????
It seems to be thinner than some of the suggestions that you did not comment on. 65# Suffox 832 is larger diameter than 25# Sniper.

I prefer a heavier braid just so that it doesn’t dig into my reel’s spool and I think comes through cover nicer. I like 50 too. I don’t see there being benefit to using a thinner diameter braid for this.

I don’t see there being benefit to using a thinner diameter braid for this. Then you should start looking at your braid. Braid that is flat or wound with edges digs in. When it's wound in a circular fashion, it lays similar to flouro / mono. Try looking at braid in 8 carriers or more, that's round. Good examples: Daiwa J-Braid Grand Suffix 832 Pro Sunline XPlasma
