When does dock shooting start to get good? What types of docks, water depth and jigs are best for this type of fishing?

For me, pre and post spawn ! Docks that have lights close to the surface with a lot of decking and close to deep water ! Invariably the lake I like the best , PK, most docks that meet that criteria are packed with Sea-Dos, Wake boats, lifts, and anything imaginable to thwart fishermen ! Some docks are equipped with sprinkler systems !

The rest of the year once they get done spawning..... gotta find those magic docks then it gets super easy. I use 1/8 jig head and whatever plastic I feel like. Gluing the plastic on the the head makes things go better. And if you gave a scope that is the way. I don't stop on docks I can't see them. I'm not looking for 1 or 2 I'm looking for 100 or 200.....

I should start looking at docks with my LiveScope. Sounds like a great plan.

Dock shooting heats up right now! Usually best for me till June or so. I like to use a light jighead 1/32nd or 1/16th oz. The docks they like varies greatly but in general they really like the docks with bigger decks (creates more shade) and with a bit of depth 8-10 ft.

It's amazing how specific they will be on one spot of a dock. You can have a giant dock and they may all be on one pole. They will also move as the sun moves. That's the real benefit to scope. Also they don't always bite. I will locate them, if they won't eat I will go find some more then come back later and they may be chomping. I have heard that cedar is one of the better dock shooting lakes but I haven't fished it for crappie

I have spent days where I did nothing but look at docks with livescope, marking docks that had a huge school. Once you find a dock, they will stay under that specific dock for quite awhile. I like to have 20-25 docks that I can run to based on the wind direction, sun position, etc. Because, as it's been mentioned here, the crappie will move on the dock following the shade lines. You might not be able to get a bait to them at 10am because of where they are positioned, but you come back at 3pm and they are sitting ducks. Beyond that, I like to catch 5 or so off of a dock, and move on to the next.

Anyone trying to dock shoot on Palestine will be limited to boat slips for a while. Unless you are super skilled and can hit a 6 in gap. smile

your mileage may vary

You would be shocked at the gaps we shoot..... lol I have peppered the side of some docks trying to get it in a 2 inch space lol. Hell I have one I'm gonna get a 15 foot pole and just stick my arm under the water if I can't figure out a better way

I fished with a legend on here and he fished through the spaces on a couple of docks and when a crappie was hooked it was pulled up and to the front of the dock and the net was used to finally complete the process. Iā€™m not sure I know of any docks with spaces on the decking now.

Also when you spot any dock with any triangle formed by three dock poles in close proximity crappie will be there. Pyramid magic is for real.

I fish some docks casting under handed with a spincast reel. I am more accurate and I can get better distance with this method. You guys should give it a try.

on cedar creek we fished quite a few docks that were old and weathered where you could get a jig thru the gap.The secret was to fish outside of nail goles on that stringer, gice a little slack, lie on your belly and lip it. On my current lake they replaced both fishing docks .I was thinking of taking small saw and heloing the process of aging. Shade is what to look for.

Oh Boy!....scoping and shooting docks....their wont be enough left to spawn next year bolt

The driving force and secret desire of every bass fisherman, is to one day be a crappie fisherman............Could it be that the good Lord just smilies and looks the other way when a fisherman tells a lie?
