Not sure where all the fish are hiding. I spent 9 hours on the lake and only found fish on the 6th brush pile. [Linked Image]

I don’t know what the pattern means, maybe someone can educate me. Water was 69F at 9 am, about 71F by 5 pm. Lots of bait fish by the dam on the east side of the lake. Very little bait that I can find on the west side of the lake. All were caught on minnows, with 2 crappies caught on 1/16 jig on Cajun cricket.

I couldn’t find fish until about 2 pm in the afternoon, they were aggressive when did find them. The crappie doesn’t seem to be close to shore, but many were full with eggs.

I would have thought they be spawned out by now.

All my fish was given to friends, family and neighbors.

I've been checking on the shad spawn on the main lake every few days. I've seen some isolated pockets of spawning but not anything of significance. I checked on the main lake again this morning. I didn't see any spawning activity but there were a good amount of shad close in to the shoreline. I fished for an hour and only caught 4 small white bass and a small LMB.

Overnight temperatures are expected to be in the 70's early part of next week. It should kick off some better fishing.

Still trying to figure this lake out. I was out there last weekend and caught 1 LMB (2.45lbs) and 1 catfish in 5 hrs of fishing. Lake is big and I'm probably running around to much.

Heck yeah! I'll get a chance to head out there with a guide in May.

Howdy,

I have been catching crappie in shallow water at several of the lakes in the region.

Are there any locations on Somerville where I might wade out and catch crappie in shallow water?

Checked on the shad spawn this morning. It was 75 degrees and I was already sweating at 5 AM this morning so I had high expectations. No spawning shad though. There were still a good amount of shad swimming along the bank but no predators in the area. Full moon is in 5 days. Maybe that will kick it off.

Fished the Birch Creek pier Saturday before the rain hit. Crappie were there, bite was slow, but often enough to keep me interested. just had to keep moving bait around from post to post and keep minnow lively. There were shad swarming the pier and the bank, but I don't think they were spawning. As J-Moe said, no predator fish after them. Just a crane that was picking up shad at will. Didn't see much action from the bank fisherman fishing for white bass off the peninsula. There were not a lot of ppl there. usually that pier is packed. Maybe they didn't come out due to weather forecast. Can't wait to see that water boiling!

Fished Somerville yesterday, About 6-9 dead shad at Welch boat ramp (~7am). No WB activity chasing shad on shoreline. No schooling activity in lake. Fish several areas in boat & graphed lots of bait fish but no WB bite. Caught 4 WB keepers released & small perch. Good day to fish but not "catching".

Been finding hungry Crappie on brush 12-14FOW as of recent. Every pile I’ve checked has had numbers on it. Once you pull 5-8 fish off it they seem to shut down. Having to keep jumping piles.

Bobby Garland Elec Chicken on 1/16oz PINK jighead has been key for me lately.

Thanks for the posts guys. I guess it was wishful thinking that the shad spawn would have started in April. I guarantee it will happen in May though roflmao
