I’m new to catfishing, thinking about the Bosque below Waco dam. Gonna be too windy the next 10 days to get out on the lakes to chase striper and whites. Any thoughts? Range cubes in deep holes is all I know to try. Punch bait or cheese bait after I bait the holes?

Don't know that area at all. I would strongly recommend using shad. The shad should be spawning just about everywhere right now. Super easy to catch. A small cast net from Walmart is around $20. Throw it in shallow water right by the bank at daybreak. Fresh shad will catch fish anytime. I don't know what kind of access there is as far as bank fishing goes, but I would also recommend trying downstream where the Bosque merges with the Brazos. I used to run trotlines on the Brazos when I was a kid and there are some monsters in that river. We would always have a few hooks straightened out. Good luck!

We striper fish all the time and use live shad, so that won’t be a problem. I’ll give it a try in that area. Looking to fish the river since it’s too windy to get on Whitney the next 10 days to fish for striper.
Thanks for the advice.

Any kind of fresh cut fish or even live fish are good. Catfish are in every creek and river you can find. I wouldn’t bait out anything. Look up some drift fishing techniques for smaller waters, a lot of them (including myself) like to use a bobber to drift baits. If memory serves me right the bosque isn’t a large river.

If you want to see the size of some of the big catfish in the Bosque and Brazos river go eat at Buzzard Billys restaurant on the Brazos. Ask to sit outside on the balcony. Take a few slices of bread with you and toss pieces over the balcony to feed the fish. The carp and ducks will eat most of what you throw over, but every once in a while a Monster catfish will appear from the depths of the river to come up and eat the bread. When I say monsters I mean monsters.
I come from the water.
