Good article! It reminded me of the failed Lake Applewhite project in the late 80s that would have given the San Antonio area a lake. It got politicized and voted down after all of the permits had been granted and land bought and construction started. I wonder how different things would look today if the lake had been finished.

Probably a good thing since it doesn't concern you, lol.

Hope those LOs get great compensation or the lake is not approved.

I can’t blame the landowners, but if people don’t stop moving here, we’re gonna have some problems.

This has been an ongoing [censored] show for many years now. There was a time when the federal government would have subsidized a good portion of the cost, but like anything else the city of Wichita Falls chose to be reactive instead of proactive and missed the boat. So the financial onus is on the region and state.

pretty sure the land was purchased many years ago an then leased back to the ranchers for a small fee kinda like when the ranchers an farmers were saying the govt was trying to steal their land on the red river it turns out they had just been using it for decades without deeds or property taxes depends on which side of the fence you are on.

Someone will always be affected negatively anytime a large project is started. Highway construction, lake building….. Easier to “armchair quarterback” a project that does not directly affect me but IMHO THIS project is an example of when immenant domain SHOULD be used as it was intended. Not so the public can build a stadium in Arlington for Jerry Jones so he can sell tickets to a football game. The article mentions “flooding ancestral grounds”. What project of any kind ever does not affect “ancestral grounds”? An unfortunate side effect of progress is someone will always be negativity affected. As water becomes more scarce west this project becomes less like “progress” and more like “survival”.
