Hey Folks. . . My wife and I are finally getting away for 5 days in a nice cabin on LOP. Do y’all have any suggestions for good places to eat around Ore City, Lone Star, or Avinger?

We will be cooking a couple of days, but my wife says it’s not a vacation if she has to cook every meal😁😁😁

Thanks a Bunch. . .

The steak house in Avinger is always talked about as very good. Never been there so can't comment on experience but see plenty of cars there when we've been thru there.

That steak house in Avinger is called 5D Cattle Company. It’s been a while since the wife and I ate there, but it’s good. A couple more places, in case you get rained out or something… Enoch’s Stomp Winery has good food. The scenery is great, and their wines are award-winning. Bear Creek Smokehouse is very good, and it’s a really cool venue. It has a country store, and maybe your wife could find some of their bacon or smoked sausage to cook while you’re slaying the bass on LOP. Jefferson is also a cool place to visit. Several restaurants there, and she can walk around all the antique shops while you’re ripping lips.

Hope y’all have a good time!

JR

Don't overlook the fact LOP is an awesome Bluegill lake. Lots of nice ones.

The steakhouse is good!! I like the cafe at the entrance to Johnson creek park. I think it’s called the lake house or something but it didn’t look open the other day. Shame cause it’s got great breakfast!

The lake is up 6.73 and falling; gates open 3200cfs. Might affect the bite. You know how finicky the crappie can be. Good fish and good times.

Being from that area let me add Riverport BBQ and Red Dirt BBQ in Jefferson. Corbett's Catfish and More in Avinger or make a little drive between Karnack and Uncertain, Texas and eat catfish at Big Pines Lodge. Depending on where you're staying at LOP it'll be a 30-45 minute drive and thank me later.

Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right

You'll need reservations at 5D Steakhouse if you plan on eating there on a Friday or Saturday evening. Big Pines Lodge is really good and a Caddo Lake fixture of many years. The Lake Café on FM 729 between Johnson's Creek and Alley Creek is really good, especially for breakfast.
