VIPERI use a product called VIPER. Get it at the local feed store. 1 bottle will last me 3-4 years. I have not paid for an exterminator in 20+ years.
Grateful for every sunrise and sunset I get to witness. - Jason

One thing you can do is keep your AC unit in the shade. Fire ants like sunny areas and are less likely to build in the shade.

I use Amdro. Pour a little on the mound and the problem goes away.

I use a product call Over and Out and have been very pleased with the results throughout the whole yard.

When killing fire ants, you know what I like to see? Dead ants.
Over and out when treating mounds will give you a big pile of dead ants, use a shovel to take the top of the mound off, spread the pellets, then plenty of water. Tomorrow you'll have a big pile of dead ants.
Bifen XTS will do the same thing, and spraying around your A/C will keep the vermin out.

They are drawn to the current in the contacts and can short them out. Used to coat them with coil cleaner back in my A/C days and the acid in that did a number on them. Also with all the wetness they are seeking high places to build.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

Side note - its a good time to go ahead and wash off your condenser coils if you haven't already. Pull off the outer shield panels and spray it with your water hose.
Not sure that will do anything about the ants, but it sure does help your AC cool more efficiently.

I use the same "ear" tag that they use for cattle. It repels ants. I also use them on my septic system to keep them out of the pump motor. They are good for about a year.
Got them at Well's Brothers "farm" store.
