I installed a Cuda 168 ($89.95 from Galyans) on my Ride using the "shoot through" mount, i.e. the sensor is epoxy glued inside the hull. Works great! I power it with a rechargable 12V deer feeder battery from Academy ($14.95). For recharging I picked up a little charger from Academy as well $12.95). It must not draw much since I have yet to run the battery down on a trip up to 6hr. I secured the battery inside the hull in an old binoculars case suspended inside. I can't believe how well it works shooting through the hull, but since they are built to shoot through fibreglass, shooting through a thin sheet of polyethelene is a breeze.

In this life there is fly fishing and tying...and then there is all that other stuff in between that doesn't matter.

Hey I'm excited about this forum.
I bought a tandam not too long ago and have been out with the family on it a few times. I will buy a solo kayak soon and look forward to hearing about what everyone like and dislikes about thier kayak models.

Will, where did you mount the screen , flush or on a stand?

Thanks in advance
Paul

Mounted it on its stand - the Ride has a real handy place for it just in front of the footrests.

I'm just checking this page out for the first time, but one of the guys on the float tube page has made a graph holder I'm very impressed with! I think he's fishman5 over there. I have a hard time keeping real names and handles straight!

He used 1 1/2 inch PVC. Basically it's an upside down L. The top section has a small piece of wood on it and the graph is mounted to that. There is a end-cap installed on this top section of PVC. Remove the cap, and he's got a holder that uses D Cell (if I recall correctly) batteries and converts to 12-Volts. There batteries all fit inside the PVC in this top section. Then, a L-Bend section is used and the down-tube goes from there.

The transducer is screwed into the down-shoot section of PVC, just as if you were mounting to a transom.

This makes the entire unit self-contained! No wires going from unit to boat, or from unit to battery. Lift if off the boat, and it's all in one piece. Very nifty design.

Kelly
