Is there enough depth at Hazel Basemore to launch a Basstracker with a 50 hp Merc? How far up river can you go before dragging bottom?
Anyone?

Last time I was there about 3 years ago, there was enough water for a kayak. Way too much brush and trees in the water for a boat.

Too many years since I was last on the Nueces down that way but would definitely take a chain saw with me if going........ 2cents

I fish that stretch often in my Hobie 360. Caught some bass there last week. My sonar shows 7-9 foot through most of the main river channel right now from the boat launch at HB Park all the way down to the dam at Labonte (one shallow bar area right past the first apartments). Be careful though because it comes up fast out of the main channel if you get closer to the edges and they are too shallow for even my yak in regular conditions but last week it was at a good level. Had 2 boats very similar to a Bass Tracker rolling past me on the river with no issues.
I have only been up river from the launch one time. Went about a mile up river before turning around. I don't remember any spots you couldn't get a Bass Tracker through just fine. There was more brush and such up river. I definitely wouldn't run wide open or anything but slow idle running you should be fine. I tend to catch more catfish than bass on lures in that stretch and there is huge gar and carp to. Be careful if you get out of the boat somewhere...outside of it being private property I saw a 5-6 foot rattlesnake floating down the river last time and there are plenty down that stretch.

Good luck if you go. If you see a skinny red head on a blue Hobie stop by and say hello. thumb
