I know they get bigger down in south and central Texas, but I've found a lake where 8" gills are common and a 5-6 " is small. These appear to be pure gills, not hybrids. I caught a good one tonight and took a pic next to rod. How many inches y'all giving this one. I'll tell you how big he was, he was big enough to get me excited and that's really all that matters. But roughly 8.25 is what I think. Can't wait for the water to stabilize. Would you consider this a good Texas bluegill fishery?

Nice fish and report. An 8” bluegill is a good one. A 10” is considered a trophy. Keep fishing the location and see what you catch. I would consider any waterbody that gets you excited about fishing to be a good bluegill fishery. thumb

Kev...If this is a public lake, I would take a look at the lake record for the various sunfish & use that as my benchmark....However they all are fun to catch...

Congrats - it is hard to find decent size sunfish in the Metroplex.
