Cedar Creek Lake Fishing Reports for Spring 2024 - 03/05/24 04:14 AM

3/1/2024: Friend Cliffshot and I went structure fishing for white bass and caught 42. Most were on 20 to 22 fow humps and points down near the dam. Best baits were 1/4 oz Little Cleo, small white slab, and #4 silver Mepps jigged on the bottom. As of today the water temp is 58 degrees F.

Thanks for the update Dennis. Yesterday I was cleared to resume fun activities like fishing and golf. I have been taking care of my wife after her surgery. Now that she's on the mend, I think I'll hit the lake this afternoon.

Re: Cedar Creek Lake Fishing Reports for Spring 2024 - 03/05/24 10:41 PM

I spent a few hours looking around since it has been a while since I've been out. The water temps I saw were from 61 to 64. I looked at a number of spots in the 14 - 16 FOW and 20 - 22 FOW range. While I saw fish in both depths, the most active fish were 14 - 16 foot range. The area I concentrated the longest on was spillway hump. The fish were hanging tight around any type of structure you could find. When you got the lure in the area of the fish they would chase it. I saw Dennis and Cliffshot right as I just got started. When I saw them they were just looking.

Thanks, Gene. It got better yesterday. We caught 68 from 12:15 to 3 PM. Sixty-five were white bass, one 17 inch hybrid, one cat, and one yellow bass. Most fish were in 14 to 18 fow. Caught most on Mepps #4.

3/7/2024: Graham and I fished from about 3:15 to 6:30 PM and caught 78: one legal hybrid, 4 short ones, 4 cats, 4 yellow bass, and the rest white bass. We were on a main lake ridge in 20 fow with 40 fow on both sides. We did best by casting Boblades and retrieving fast along the bottom. Water temp was 58 degrees.

Re: Cedar Creek Lake Fishing Reports for Spring 2024 - 03/13/24 01:35 PM

3/11/2024: Took my great nephew Caleb fishing on CC. We fished for white bass and hybrids from 10AM to 2:45 PM and caught 101: 7 legal hybrids, 5 short hybrids, 2 yellow bass, 2 cats, and the rest white bass. Most were caught on a 20 to 25 fow Ridge near the dam and a 17 fow Hump near the dam. We also found some under birds briefly in the dsame area. We caught most by making long casts with a chartreuse BoBlade with silver spinner and cranking back to the boat fast but near the bottom. Also caught some on Silver Mepps4, Panther Martin spinner, and 1/3 Oz Little Cleo. We went back out late and caught another 43 in 1 1/2 hours including 5 more hybrids 3 legal..

Re: Cedar Creek Lake Fishing Reports for Spring 2024 - 03/15/24 04:31 AM

3/14/2024: Graham and I went out from 9:45 AM to 3:45 PM and again from 5 PM to 7:30 PM and caught a total of 175: 8 legal hybrids, 9 short hybrids, 2 cats, a crappie, and the rest white bass. Most of the whites were big - 13 to 16 inches. There were two patterns today. One was near the dam fishing humps in 16 to 23 fow. The other was fishing under the gulls at the southwest edge of Crappie Island Flats. - -some just beyond the edge in 48 fow. Fish were easy to see on side-scan. Early on the loons were pushing the shad to the surface, but later the fish were pushing them up. We caught most of the fish on BoBlades, but also caught quite a few on silver Little Cleos and #4 silver Mepps.

Re: Cedar Creek Lake Fishing Reports for Spring 2024 - 03/23/24 03:08 AM

Today Cliff (cliffshot) and I hosted Bob Maindelle at Cedar Creek Lake - our return treat for his hosting us earlier at Lake Belton. We picked a good day. There was bird action all morning - - and a real boat show. But plenty of fish for everybody. We fished the birds from about 8 AM to 11:30, then took Bob to fish some Cedar Creek structures. We found fish on most of the structures in about 20 fow and caught about 40% of our 265 fish there. We caught 5 legal and 7 short hybrids, 2 yellow bass, a cat, and the rest white bass. On average, the white bass under the birds were bigger than the ones on structure. We stopped at 1:35 PM still catching fish. Bob caught most of his on his hazy-eyed slab and his MAL Mepps spinner, Cliff caught them on a blade bait and slab, and I caught most of mine on a BoBlade. I did put on one of Bob's hazy-eyed slabs after seeing how well he did with them fishing straight down. I liked it, catching fish immediately.

Excellent report Mr. Christian. You are what I call "Good People". I grew up in a farming community, and that was a stamp of approval that was given in reference to someone who was honest as the day is long. Hope to cross paths with you someday on the water. Iwould love to help with gas one day, and chew the fat with you and some of the usual suspects out on the water.

Thanks. As I recall, you fish Grapevine Lake a lot. Unless you are itching to come fish Cedar Creek Lake, I'd like to come let you show me where to catch white bass on Grapevine. I have never fished that lake.

Re: Cedar Creek Lake Fishing Reports for Spring 2024 - 03/24/24 02:41 AM

Fished CC today with friend Paul G and we caught 102: 101 white bass and a yellow bass. We went out about 2:30 PM and fished until 5:30 PM catching our fish on two structures - 3Jug Hump in 20 fow and Spillway Hump in 24 fow. We caught them on BoBlades, Mepps #4, Hazy-eyed slabs, and Paul Bunyon's Lucky 66 w/o the feather.

Note - the feather was stuck to my wet hand - I had taken it off the lure.

Not have I fished CC... We can do both. Will not be as good on GV, but I can happily show you the humps that are possible year round items to check. I'm pretty mad at the green fish, and tinker with the Sandbass when I'm taking a break. It's always good to chew the fat, even if it's piddling around the lake. We need to cross paths on each other's back yard for sure. My fishing mentor is a bass fishing professor and we have a great time on little old Grapevine.

When you have an extra seat, give me some notice and I will put some gas in the boat. I still remember years ago instant messaging you for info, and still haven't ventures to CC. I'm going to talk to you soon "old Man", I'm looking Forward to visiting with you.

03/25/2024: Fished from 3 to 6:15 PM today with Cliffshot and Graham and caught 139 - all whites bass except for one catfish. We left fish still biting in four spots - the east side of Crappie Island Flats in 27 fow, Dam Ridge in 21 fow, Campbell's Hump in 18 fow, and Greenhouse Ridge in 29 fow. We caught fish mostly straight down using BoBlades, Hazy-eyed slabs, and Paul Bunyon's Lucky 66 spinners.

3/27/2024: Friends Larry C and Bob fished with me from 8:30 AM til 4:15 PM and we caught 201: 196 white bass, an 18 inch hybrid, 3 cats, and a drum. We started in Crappie Island Flats hoping for some bird action, but it didn't materialize. So, we began structure fishing. We caught some fish at Dam Ridge, Greenhouse Ridge, 60 Acre Hump, and finished at 3-Jug Hump where we caught most of our fish and left still catching. We use BoBlades, Mepps 4, and Hazy-eyed slabs. BoBlades did the best. Fish were still deep - in 20 to 28 fow. Here are some pics of today's trip:

4/4/2024: Fished with Paul G and Mike H from 1:30 to 4:30 PM, and after looking for an hour we finally found them in two spots: Greenhouse Ridge in 26 fow and 3-Jug Hump in 21 fow. We used BoBlades and Mepps #4 fishing vertically on the bottom.

Here's Paul with nice sandy:

4/21/2024: My sister's grandson Christian and his roommates Tofer and Hunter at DBU came to fish with me on CC. A stiff north wind forced us to fish protected water, and we found fish at 60 Acre Hump in 22 fow. We used BoBlades, Hazy-eyed slabs, and Mepps #4 spinners to catch 308: 300 whites, 5 yellow bass, and 3 short hybrids fishing from about 2:15 to 6:10 PM. We caught most fishing straight down and reeling up from the bottom. All fish were released. Here are some pictures:

5/1/2024
Found good concentrations of fish at Dam Ridge, Greenhouse Ridge, and Pitts Point. Could have caught all I wanted at each spot. They ranged from 22 fow to 30 fow. Caught them on chartreuse BoBlades, Mepps#4, and HeyBuds. Near the south end of Crappie Island Flats, I caught 6 hybrids (5 legal to 24 1/2 inches and a 17 inch one).

5/2/2024
Went out with friend Graham and we caught 111 whites, 7 legal hybrids, 2 shorts, 12 yellow bass, and 3 cats. We went to the same spots as yesterday plus Long Ridge West. Used the same lures plus Hazy-eyed slabs.

Dennis, I know lots of rain has fallen since your Wednesday post. How is the lake today? Is it muddy or is it fishable?

I’m looking for a spot to fish tomorrow morning, Whitney and Waco (the two lakes I live by) are really muddy and full of debris with our flooding we have had.

Look at the bottom of Dennis's Wednesday post. He was out yesterday and posted this: "5/2/2024

I was out today briefly and the water from Crappie Island to the dam is slightly stained, but very fishable - catching fish 22 fow or more deep.

We made the trip to CC today and it was worth it! Caught and released 38, one was a really nice hybrid and it was the first one we caught.

Dennis was nice to run into you on the water and have a minute to visit.
