Should I get insurance on a 16' v-hull Jon Boat with a 40hp Mercury and light trailer? I am on the fence and not sure if it would be worth it for me to get. I have had to fix my boat a few times from the motor to the boat itself. Will insurance cover the repairs when needed or am I looking for an easy way to pay for all the upkeep on my boat? Or is the insurance a better bet in case your boat comes loose and damages someone else vehicle or boat? Is it really necessary? Thanks.

From my understanding your tow vehicles insurance covers your liability while on the road.
I have a 20 foot center console and a 14 ft tiller jon boat never had insurance or a note on either and probably never will.

If you or anyone for that matter hurts someone on the water with that boat you will be glad you had insurance or are ready to declare bankruptcy. Insurance is not for repairs it is for protection. No insurance in this lawsuit happy world is penny wise and dollar foolish!
