 Temple/Belton area Crappie?

Anywhere around here better than others for crappie? I know both lakes are really low and haven't fished them before for crappie and was just wondering some areas to try here pretty soon. Thanks!

Try 36 bridge area, Rogers park, Ceder Gap park on Stillhouse.

The general area is fine, BUT we need rain severely!!! It has been YEARS since anyone has been able to fish the old crappie stomping grounds. There hasn't been water in Winkler's, Aycock, Owl or Stampede or many of the other areas for years! Ultimately.....if the fish can't get to the creeks and old coves they spawn in more open areas. This has effected the crappie population because they are more open game. I have been fishing Belton for years, and the last few have been poorer and poorer. The lake is over 12' low right now! We need substantial rain!

I wish it wasnt that way, but it is what it is. I still know a few places to go hammer them, but I wont, because I want belton to recover quick once it gets water again. I may go catch a few but wont be keeping any.

I heard that corps of engineers is doin some work on the dam is one reason the lake is so low, plus they supposedly dont want it to get back to its normal level since it flooded out alot of the camping areas a few years ago. Ive only heen here two years and some change so i dont know about the "great flood" to make them think it is worth while to not let ole belton back to her prime.

The reason the lake is low is because we haven't had enough rain in the watershed to cause runoff. Not much water being released, usually 20-30cfs, which is probably for Temple water supply. Hopefully we will get Spring rains in the watershed, otherwise it will be horrible by fall. The rains downstream will help though as less water will be released for downstream users.
