Can anyone tell me if it is safe to eat the fish from Vance's Camp? I heard they were banned by the State some time back. Also have the crappie/sandies started running?

There is a consumption ban on fish from Lake Worth. Here is the link to Texas Parks and wildlife advisory. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/leave/?u=http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/seafood/MapsPDF/AdvisoryMaps/LakeWorth.pdf
If you look at the map Vance's Camp isnt technically highlighed. I guess it depends on where you think the fish came from. Are they from Lake Worth or did they make it though the dam? For my its just not worth it. It sucks beacuse I used to fish there all the time.

I used to fish there and mess around there 20 years ago. The last time I went down there (about 2 years ago) I was just passing by but I was bummed out to see the TRASH and junk setting around. I wouldn't eat fish from there or even fish there if is as trashy as it was the last two times I passed thru. Is it still a junky trashed area or have they cleaned it up any?
I feel more like I do now than I did when I first got here!

There is a lot of talk about cleaning up Lake Worth, but so far, just talk. I don't think anything downstream of E.M is safe. On the flip side, fish with a lot of fat or older fish are affected more. young crappie are very lean, and probably don't have a lot of toxins present. Not really worth the worry, as there are plenty of good fish in E.M and Bridgeport.

I was telling some buddies the other day, that someone ought to go in and buy that land, clean it all up and renovate it, and it'd be a perfect place to camp out like it used to be. As far as the fish, im not sure if they make it all the way from LW to Vances, in between there and the nature center, is some pretty shallow water. I could be wrong. Then again, I'm a sport fisher and dont keep anything, anyways...... Okay, sometimes I keep crappie and sandbass, but never a LMB!

Just went down there today. Did not get a bite. Still very trashed. Boat ramp in not even worth it. They up there rates to $3.oo a person and $5.00 for boat launch. No boats to rent anymore. They do have camping if you want to but gate locks at dark sun-Thurs. and midnight Fri-Sat. If anyone hears about this place going up forsale It would really be worth it for the right person or Group (Hint TFF) Went down river to see if you can still get up there from Lake worth but maybe in a canoe or very small jon boat alot of trees have fallen across the river. And talk about cleaning up lake worth well They need to start up here cause with all the trash on the bank and caught up in the trees no wonder lake worth stays dirty. Did not go up towards spillway so can not comment on that side but from the camp down TRASHED!!
