I have read quite a bit on here about how good the catfishing is after a rain do the currents that are created and how the catfish will be in the shallows this time of year. Well, I went to Benbrook this past Sunday for a couple of hours during the afternoon. We headed back towards Bear Creek and achored up in the mouth on the open lake side. Water was muddy and there was a slow current. We fished with punch bait, liver and shrimp (did not have the almighty shad) in about 7 - 8 feet of water with rod and reel. We didn't get one bite over about a one hour period, so we decided to move. cry

We went up into the creek about 200 yards from the mouth and anchored up again. There was a little more of a current, but not to fast. We fished the flooded vegetation, the banks, out in the middle and only had one bite and missed that one to boot. What gives? bang

at the northwest side of the dam there are some humps in the area.... drift fish this area with fresh, cut shad... you can catch a ton of shad behind the dam in the little spillway cut.... some monsters live on those humps...

Thanks for the suggestion Ronnie. I'll give that a try. I was hoping some of the pros would speak up about how to fish the creeks when they are swollen like this. Anyone out there have any suggestions?

This may sound stupid...
Whats the difference between Shad and Minnows?
Do you catch shad on a throw net?

Online.

I spent almost a year checking for Benbrook maps every time I visited a sporting goods store; none of them had one.

The only available map I found was printed in the early 1990s, and is of questionable accuracy. It misses a lot of major features and doesn't agree with the actual shoreline particularly well.

Good luck on the hunt, Krazy.....and thanks for the input. Seems like we fished some of the same water before, but we were fishing on the bottom. I guess keeping it off the bottom is the answer. Be careful and I'll see you out on the lake sometime.

For a lake map of Benbrook, you can find one at Academy off of Bryan Irvin Road and I-20.
