I'll buy the more weight will help in the drift issue, but once the weight hits the bottom, it has no effect on the waves unreeling more line and moving the buoy off its original location.

Change out the strap weights with a 4-6 oz bank sinker. If you've ever slab fished for sand bass you know how the spoon drifts down basically on it's side. So does the strap weight, the bank sinker heads straight for the bottom. I use a big snap swivel ahead of the sinker to help with the line twist.

Mike is exactly right. You change it out to a bank sinker will help on getting the weight to bottom faster.
If you donโ€™t have any you can fold the flat weight up a couple times.
