There are many great movies with great opening scenes. Below are three of my favorites:

1. Patton

2. Breakfast at Tiffany's

3. Highlander

Can anyone add more?

Star Wars (the original 1977 movie)

Raiders of the Lost Ark

The first movie gave the classic screen crawl, and then threw you right into the action with hardly a word of dialogue or exposition. You got to know that Darth Vader was a serious bad guy just from his entrance. In contrast, "Raiders" was a slower-paced opening, but again, there was no exposition - the audience just had to experience the rising action with Indy and figure out what was happening as events unfolded.

Both movies immersed you in their fictional worlds immediately.

The good, bad, ugly. The gunmen riding into the desolate town, wind howling, dust blowing. They kick in the saloon door gun ablaze the tuco crashes through the window and rides off

Raiders of the Lost Ark
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Star Wars

Those are the first three I thought of.
