I been trying to get another Kayak, but have probably given up this year, I do have a Canoe, a Saranac 146, and I've seen ppl make them just as good as Jon Boats or Yaks for fishing.
Question is does anyone here fish out of a Canoe?, any mods/ideas you can help with, yes I've looked on youtube, I'm OK handy but not great, will buy your old mods, or pay you to make them ( also dont have tools i would need anyways )

I fish out of a 14 ft saranac also. I added a garmin depth finder and mounted it inside the hull. Other than that no mods, it's great for creeks and calm water. Not great in the wind on big water.

for stability and ease of paddling look at putting in a saddle, used mostly for whitewater canoes but makes them extremely stable when fishing. I used mine for racing and fishing in colorado, saddle puts your center of gravity a whole lot lower. this was one of mine, 12' 6" on a trip thru grand canyon, fished a lot on all 3 trips I made. saddle and knee pads run about 100.00, use weldwood contact cement to install. https://www.nrs.com/padz-canoe-pede...T1R_8s10YH9fVDeC9dUMLUmMNaAaAgaiEALw_wcBhttps://www.nrs.com/padz-canoe-cont...pukC6U--HP9Phd6H9_HMnSSHV0saArndEALw_wcB

I spent the first 15 of my paddling life in a canoe. They are great boats.

Fished from my 15' Grumann for years before buying a bass boat. Had a side-mount for trolling motor which had a sonar transducer strapped to the bottom of it and oar locks for aluminum oars. Transported it on top of my Ford Maverick. Those were the days and many trips to all kinds of waters (though never rapids!).

Question is does anyone here fish out of a Canoe?, any mods/ideas you can help with, yes I've looked on youtube, I'm OK handy but not great, will buy your old mods, or pay you to make them ( also dont have tools i would need anyways ) Stability is probably the main issue that needs Improvement for a canoe ( or other SINK types) compared to other craft that you refer to. They are not self bailing like (SOT) kayaks and cannot be rolled, and it's hard to stand up in them in disturbed water like someone might be able to do a Jon boat. One way to fix that is with an adjustable kit containing small side floats which clamps on to the canoe and adds a lot of stability; a search in Amazon and other online places will turn up different designs to choose from. The other issue is that two hands are needed when facing into, fighting, or Landing especially a large fish which might be troublesome in Open, windy, or moving Water. It's difficult to turn the boat into such situations while anchored or by paddling in a drift when it is needed, because the paddling hands will be busy playing the fish. For that situation, the fisherman might have to move around to shift positions all around while inside the boat. It could be challenging to move around inside an anchored or moving narrow design boat depending upon how much load and how it's organized as compared to a skiff or Jon Boat. Hope this helps.

I have the flat-bottom Grumann and had no problem pivoting to fight and land fish from a standing position. In a sense, it's like having a pointed bow/ stern Jon boat. I liked the shallow draft, especially in rivers, and was happy they were the easiest craft to transport compared to my bass boat or flat bottom. A smaller craft forces you to take less junk or duplicate supplies.

I just posted my Sportspal S-15 for sale on the classified page of the kayak fishing section.
