How does this happen. In 2005 my wife's brother got killed by one on 287 & I-20. Lastnight we almost got taken out by one on 360 infront of six flags. Be safe on those roads my friends.

Around 1999 or so I was on duty as a fireman/paramedic in Dallas and almost got hit by a wrong way driver on duty twice in a 3 month period in an ambulance.

The problem has been around for many years, made too many calls that were wrong way driver caused. First one I remember was in 1991 wrong way driver entered southbound Stemons at Woodall headed north. He hit a car with 6 younger people and killed them all and himself. Was right in front of where the AAC is now.

Very sorry about your brother and glad y'all weren't victims last night. Years ago I encountered it twice on the same stretch of hwy between Rowena and San Angelo. It's pretty dang scary for sure and can happen very quickly.

I was pulling the boat down 35 in Okie city where the 44 bridges cross and came around a curve looking at headlights. they went by me headed north in the southbound left lane at about 0530.

had a couple of times people came across the median and almost hit me in the semi. twice they hydroplaned and once I think was a drunk, I got lucky on all.

When I was young I was driving home from a ski trip in Colorado. We had skied that day and left for home. Middle of the night was driving 287 near Childress. I had just passed someone and was in the left lane on a bridge when I realized the semi headlights in front of me were in my lane on the wrong side of the highway. Swerved at the last minute and missed him. I was wide awake after that.

How does this happen?

Before light one morning I was headed from the house in Roanoke to lake Lewsiville. As I started down the hill towards Denton creek on 377 I saw what appeared to be a wrong way driver on the opposite hill. Being night and with him close to a mile away I could not be sure. I kept an eye on him as he got closer. At about a 1/4 mile I confirmed he was in my lane. I started to formulate a plan. That section of road has no shoulders and guard rails on both sides. Time goes quick with 2 vehicles headed head on at 60 mph. Having the boat behind made it tougher. When we were about 300 yards apart I decided playing chicken was best. I did not want to make my move to the other lane too quick. About 50 yards before impact I made my move and jumped to the south bound lane. I watched him in the rearview mirror and he was still in the northbound lane all the way up the hill to Roanoke.

Stay out of the left lane after dark. Wrong ways and especially drunks like to hug that line.

Drunks, inattentive drivers, poorly painted/unmaintained lanes. The entrance of our subdivision is one of those places where the lines need to be repainted. New residents, new drivers don't realize they are in the wrong lane more and more. There will be a bad accident one of these days because of it. I just pray neither I, my loved ones, or anyone I know are involved.

Liquor

One-way street in a new city full of them got me one time before GPS was standard on everything. No accident, no ticket, just some honks, yelling and me feeling like an idiot.

Wrong way drivers, almost always liquor! Had a very good family friend killed by drunk wrong way driver in east downtown Dallas by 75 / Main / Commerce area. She was just a young lady leaving work in the late evening. I’m sure Doug J knows the area and has prolly worked several there.

Staying in the right lane and ALWAYS giving yourself an out was one of the first lessons my granddad taught me about driving.

no matter which lane you are in, never let anyone ride beside you, keep the out. letting someone pass you every 5-10 miles will keep the radar off of ya too.

Encountered that a few years ago, heading home from the rodeo. Someone traveling west bound in the eastbound lanes of I-30 and Beach area. They was in the fast lane and haulin arse into oncoming traffic. Still don't know how I missed them.
