I am about to pull the trigger on a new boat. I am going to put either Power Poles or Talons on it. I have never had either on any of my other boats, so I don't have any info to go off of. I have done my research and understand how they both work, just don't know which one would be better. What are the pros and cons of the two? If you have had both before, which one would you have again? Any insight would much appreciated.

Power poles are lighter and spread further apart when deployed to help keep the boat steady. They also don’t play well when deployed in heavy vegetation or submerged brush. That’s where Talons shine. Talons also make poles that are 15’ for deeper water. And yes I’ve had both. Pick your poison

My own personal preference in order.
1. Power Pole Blades 2. Minn Kota Raptors 3. Power Pole Sportsman 4. Minn Kota Talons

Talons less of a hassle for co-anglers in back, poles more stable with wider stance.

Had all 3 and Raptors first Talons second and PP 3rd. Raptors are way more stable in the up position and they will continue to hammer the bottom to get a firm hold on it. Talons make a little more noise but will hold in 3 foot waves but cant put them down to get them out of the way of back seat fisherman. PP 8' will only hold in about 6 foot of water if there are no waves and they shake a lot while travailing and running. Had to buy velcro straps for mine to keep them from shaking. I hear PP has great customer service from just about everyone that has had a problem so that is a plus. The Raptors were very impressive!

Funny...this is now the 2nd or 3rd person I've heard state the same thing.

So Raptor made a great product better, maybe PP will take note and one up them, I doubt PP will try and improve on the Talon design. The Raptor does look more beefier, bet it does a fine job.

Talons less of a hassle for co-anglers in back, poles more stable with wider stance. The Talons seem like they would be more in the way since the housings can't be lowered while fishing.

I've just never been able to stand looking at them. I want gutters on my house, not my boat. PP for me and haven't had a reason to change.

If you will tighten the hardware on the poles periodically, it will eliminate the vibration.

Good point….I was thinking more along the lines of while they’re deployed, the power poles being angled out and down get more in the way of the retrieve and landing of fish.
