Long time lurker here…planning on hitting up Lavon this weekend with my younger 2 boys (10 and 5) to chase these white bass. I’m a newer boat owner and just getting my bearings with all of that. We went out last weekend only to learn the boat and graphs, but managed to catch a few crappie, however, I’m more interested in getting these boys excited about catching fish and thought we’d try the white bass. After researching, I’ve picked up some white and chartreuse slabs, jigs, and some swim baits. Coming from McKinney, so looking at the Tickey creek ramp. We put in at clear lake last week but it was after 10 am which is when I think it opens. I do have live scope but my plan would be to go early, look for the birds, focus on points.. I hear there’s a crappie tournament going on Saturday too, so hope that doesn’t cause issue. Anywho, any tips would be greatly appreciated. Better ramp, better strategy, better baits? Help a dad out if you don’t mind.

Well, it all worked out. The boys caught fish left and right this morning. Probably 50-60 fish in a couple hours. I appreciate all the help guys. Special thanks to Brian, Martin, Skeeter, and David. I really appreciate all the info.

Yes sir! What a great community here. I understand keeping some spots quiet, but I’d make exceptions in a heart beat for kids. Same with hunting.
Took my oldest out last night to look for crappie. We found a ton of fish but many shorts.. ended up with 11 keepers all on jigs. Monkey milk and black/chartreuse around 12-18’.

Limit alert! Lavon has a healthy population of sand bass. The fishing was great this morning. Wind from the south helped today. 7:30-9:00 I was over a big school between hybrid point and the next point (don’t know if it has a name). Kept 25 big ones.

MAL Heavy caught the most. Tried a slab and caught yellow bass and smaller sized sand bass. Saw egrets and heron working this area and they showed me the way. Here’s the area that I fished.
