We rented a vrbo on the Trinidad side of the lake for next weekend supposedly at the end of the dock it is 14ft deep my question is do you think I have a chance of catching a few crappie and is it worth trying to catch a few blue cats any pointers would be appreciated

I live on the trinidad side of the lake but my dock is only in 6 FOW and have only caught 1 crappie in 5 years but a lot of blue cats. In 14 FOW, you should have a good chance of it holding some crappie depending on the location. Right now, 16 - 20 FOW on main lake brush is on fire so I would expect you might be able to catch a few but it's kind of a [censored] shot as to whether you will be on a good dock or not. The gas stations on 274 heading toward tool should both have minnows and frozen shad if you want to try live bait.

It should hold fish but you'll want to fish as close to the center of the dock that you can. Especially around any center poles the dock has and the fish will be suspended only a couple feet down from the dock.

when we went, we noticed theres quite a few dock owners, that have feeders on thier docks, that they load with dog food.., we were fishing in front of one dock, and the owner came out to the next dock over.. we started talking and he told me when the feeder goes off, the catfish come in and start feeding heavily and the water boils with all of the fish that come in so keep an eye out for feeder docks.
look for docks with fish cleaning stations on them, as they dump the guts right into the lake when done.,
cedar creek has alot of crappie in it,, the first thing I would do is try to determine thier mood. if you shoot some docks in 10 to 16 ft of water, theres likely some crappie under it,, if they arent in a feeding mood, you may not catch many, or just a few here and there. many of the better docks have brush in front of them, so you may want to look for brush so u can keep your offering in front of them longer than you can under a dock.
dont spend too much time on one dock, 5 shots, them move unless you catch one,,
when we went they were deep under the docks, near the center posts, and u really had to put the jig right on them, even then, just the few aggressive fish in the group would bite.
ALOT of docks had fish on them, but few would bite. may be females recovering from spawn, or whatever but just dont get stuck in a spot that isnt producing for long.
if you dont have side imaging sonar, and or livescope., I would ride around in around 14 or 15 feet of water, and look for brushpiles.
also dont overlook the bridges. small profile, bright colored jigs seemed better than natural colored jigs.
last but farley not least, pay close attention to the wind,, with the seawall that lines most of that lake, it can get rough very quick, the waves dont break like on most lakes, because of the seawall, and you will feel like your in a washing machine,, on weekends, the big MOMBA aski boats come out and they throw big waves.
most creeks that lead into coves are no wake zones, so that can be a bit safer.
if you have a 20 ft or bigger bay boat, you can kind of go where you want, as long as the wind is under 20 mph.
if u have a smaller boat, the larger creek arms and coves have plenty of fish in them . be smart, stay safe.

I tried dock shooting today and it was pretty much a bust. Unless the owner has brush down there they have moved on. Go for catfish, channels don’t taste much different than blues. Cedar Creek is loaded with catfish and they are cooperative.
