Wife and kids have never been offshore fishing before and want to go on one of the party boats in Port Aransas? Can anyone recommend one of the groups there?

The big cats at Fishermans Warf would probably be your best trip for a family that hasn't been in the Gulf. I have fished them several times and they catch fish...and remember Dramamine is your friend.

My wife and I really like Dolphindocks. They have a 4 hour trip that they take to the close rigs when seas are low and we often do the morning trip then go on the afternoon trip also if the fishing is good. The 8 hour trips are great and the 12 hour trips on Wednesday and Saturday can be amazing. I have fished all of the party boats out of Port A and we have consistently caught the most fish with Dolphindocks. If it is their first trip I wouldn’t go offshore if the seas are going to be over 3 feet.

All 3 of the main charter companies in Port A are good. Hard working crews & knowledgeable capts.
1st time offshore, I'd go with Fisherman's Wharf. Their big cats are a lot more stable on the water so less rolling action. Boats also got new engines, electronics and interior upgrades a few years ago.
Dramamine is okay but most of the guys I fish with recommend Bonine. Start taking once a day 2 days before the trip and then as directed. (Note: Bonine is not recommended for children under 12.)

I have used Dolphin Docks as well when the red snappers were in season. Boat always limited out.

Those are likely sharp nosed sharks. They do not get very big, but would be a neat fish for your crew to catch.

What kind of sharks are those and what do they do with them? The sharks in my picture were mainly bonnethead sharks. In Flags picture the sharks are mainly Atlantic sharpnose sharks. Both are good to eat, don’t get very big, and are common along the Texas coast.
