All I've managed to catch the last few times I've bank fished at night on Lake Grapevine is gar. Damn things sure are a PITA. I usually manage to catch a few channel cats at least but lately it's been brutal. It's a little farther drive but I'm gonna give Eagle Mountain a try this weekend. Hope y'all are having better luck than me.

LOL Bob. Well played....

Catfishthirsty, where have you been fishing at? I've go some good info for you. I'm not sure what bait you've been using but during the summer months I've had resounding luck on the channel cats at night with shrimp. I've had my best nights at Rockledge Park about 200 yards past the last parking spot. I've also done quite well at Murrell Park. Here's a couple of spots you'll want to try....

If you had a boat I could hook you up with some spots for Blue Cats. I've been catching quite a few lately on shad drifting in 20 feet of water right next to drop offs. Just nothing big. If you have a cast net, catch yourself some shad. You'll do better with them. The shrimp works well for channel cats and occasionally you'll catch a blue with it. Just don't buy that cheap frozen stuff you get at the bait store. Go to the grocery store and get some fresh caught whole shrimp. you'll catch twice as many fish with it. Let me know when you're going and where and, if possible, I'll show up and we'll see if we can put a decent hurt on em.

@skeetmaster I've been using shrimp and punch bait with so so success up until the last couple of weeks. A few weeks ago I tried using chicken breast and frozen shad with zero luck. I plan on using chicken livers for the first time this weekend along with punch bait and shrimp. I've been fishing at some of the trailheads on the south side of the lake and I've had the best luck by the boat ramp at Katie's Woods. A guy I met on the lake one night a while back was telling me there was good fishing at Rockledge but I thought they locked it up pretty early. I haven't been to Murrell in a few months since it got to be so damn hot. I wasn't sure if you could go there at night or not. I just got a cast net last week but haven't had time to play with it much yet. Hopefully I can start catching some shad with it soon. I plan to go out somewhere Friday night and probably Saturday night too. I was thinking to maybe try Augie's on Eagle Mountain or the trailhead across the way from McPherson Slough. It's a nice enough spot and not rocky like so much of the banks at Grapevine, I just haven't had any luck there yet. I am most certainly open to new spots though. Here are the spots I've been going to-

GV can be hard but there are a few spots that kinda hold fish all the time. As for bait cut blue gill is #1 and #1.5 is chicken, what I do with the chicken is use thighs cube it up put it in a ziplock bag add 2 packs of black cherry kool aid some kind of cooking oil enough to cover the chicken I use peanut oil and about 2-3 tbs of garlic salt, mix it up let set in the fridge over night works fantastic. Hooks go with 4/0 - 5/0 circle hooks on 25lbs mono line the mono helps set the hook a bit. Below are places that just hold cats and good luck have fun!

My weeks long dry spell at GV is finally over. Nothing to write home about but beggars can't be choosers. The carp sure did put up quite a nice fight. Caught another damn gar too but luckily it was a small one and it didn't mess up the line.[Linked Image]

Good job!!

That's a buff not a carp. Cube him up and it's great blue cat bait!

Thanks for pointing that out. I will definitely give it a try.

I tried the kool aid chicken but didn't have any luck with it. Had better luck with shrimp. I'll be trying it again this Saturday night though. Fingers crossed.
