The "plastic" pieces on the inside of my 2018 Skeeter FX21 trailer fender bunks are broken in several places. Had the carpet replaced on all my trailer bunks including the fenders but now having trouble keeping the fender bunks attached to the fender. Anyone else experience this problem and if so how did you remedy it?

I had an issue with one side of my SkeeterBuilt trailer. I had a sheet of 3/8” abs at work, so I made a new one. It is easy, but it helps to have everything you need.
I started with a piece of 1/2” mdf. I traced the old panel onto the mdf and carefully cut the pattern for the abs out of the mdf. I sanded the shape until it was perfect. Then I double side taped the pattern to the abs and used my router that is built into my 16 ft x 16 ft table saw table. I used a flush cut bit in the router to make a perfect copy of the pattern. Ext step was to use contact cement out of a gun and spray both surfaces…the abs and the back of the carpet. Let the glue setup for about 5 minutes and put the two surfaces together. Cut the carpet about 2 inches larger than the abs. Flip the attached parts over and spray glue around the edges of the backside of the abs. Let the glue setup again. Next, firmly press the excess caroet around the edges and onto the back of the bunk. Use stainless 3/8 staples and staple the folded/glued excess onto the abs.

Also, it is wise to pre drill the holes into the abs and fender BEFORE you cover the abs. It is also a good idea to use stainless machine bolts with a beveled head. Before installing the machine screws, use a 45 degree countersink to allow the machine screws to sit flush into the abs. You can install the screw and cover the heads under the carpet….but not necessary. I didn’t cover the screw heads, I just made sure they are flush with the abs and really sunk into the carpet to prevent scratching the boat. Also it is a great idea to use stainless nyloc nuts and not over tighten the nuts/machine screws.

If you don’t have any of the equipment to do this job, it will be cheaper to pay someone to made the bunk.

Steez what year trailer do you have? The issue I am having is in the way the carpeted fender bunk attaches to the trailer as there are no bolts through the actual trailer to hold it on. I guess I am going to have to drill some holes where there were none before, which is not my favorite thing to do and will make sure the bolts are sunk into the carpet as you said. I will have a better handle on it now that the 100 degree weather is supposedly done and I can get the boat off the trailer and actually work on it. I will post some pictures when I get a chance.

My trailer is a 2021. Steel fenders.

Yea I wish mine were steel. They are fiberglass and there is not place to put bolts through. Initially I thought I was going to be able to fabricate new fender bunks with plywood at the very least but that appears to be less likely now.
