Anybody know what has happened to the striped bass fishery in Toledo Bend? I haven't seen or heard of anyone catching a striped bass from toledo bend in years. There has been a few Hybrids caught there the last few years but no pure striper. From what I read Tpwd stopped stocking stripers back in 2002. Louisiana dosent stock them anymore either.

Maybe there just wasn't enough interest to continue stocking striped bass once the more popular bass and crappie fisheries took over. There is no official reason that I can find why the stocking was stopped. Another reason I can think of is the stripers were causing a decline in the largemouth bass numbers. Don't know if that's true though.

I doubt that is the case, it usually comes down to dollars. The locals need to start complaining to the TPWD. That’s part of what out license fee goes towards.

Here is a nice hybrid striped bass caught from Toledo Bend 2 years ago. Wonder how they got in there. Nobody stocks them directly into toledo bend. A few are caught by the dam occasionally.

From twok
On one of those queen of the sabine trips there was clear patch in river and hybrids were in it and they said it was from water coming over the dam at Tawakoni. Nothing to stop from twok all the way to Sabine I believe

For lakes that don't stock hybrids, the occasional hybrids caught are most likely coming from upstream lakes. I know Lake Livingston doesn't stock hybrids but there are few reports of catching hybrids due to lakes up north run offs. Houston angler have to go to Conroe for Hybrids.

I have good news for Lake Livingston anglers, beginning 2024 TPWD will start stocking LL with hybrids.

Livingston's 2024 hybrid stock

I dont have any news on Toledo Bend.

My Yegua Creek "Water Body Record" Striped Bass was most likely washed down the Brazos River. There had not been any stocked in the Lake Somerville area in many years!

Speaking of Lake Livingston, are the Stripers not doing good there?

There is a LL guide that drags his boat over to Conroe every winter to fish for Hybrids. I would think he would stay on LL to chase the Stripers?!?!?

Hybrid stocking on Lake Livingston? That's really GREAT news, Todd. Thanks for sharing!

I have fished the Sabine River above Toledo Bend during the white bass spawn for 17 years, and have only ever seen one hybrid caught.
