Any Updates out of Lake Austin? The TPWD fishing report is very confusing. The Title of the Report is Lake Austin but they keep referring to it as Lady Bird Lake within the report (so no idea which body of water they are actually talking about)

Going to be out there tomorrow before the cold front - I really just want to know - When Launching from the 360 Bridge is it best to go north or south (not looking for spots just curious if north would mean less people and wake boarders.

I have fished this body of water twice now and only seen 2 other bass boats when I go south from 360 bridge.

Last I heard, the bass fishing in Lake Austin really declined due to grass carp eating up all the vegetation. This was a while back though, so maybe things have gotten better. Plenty of big bass in Lady Bird Lake though.

Never could figure this lake out during my 3 practice attempts before my first ever tournament this weekend (weekend hobby guy)

I tied into something that felt big but lost it when it dove straight down, maybe a catfish honestly, off a creek channel bend.. Caught one dink under a main lake dock

Went south from bridge every time.

Maybe I will have some luck this weekend, I just want to boat one so I can go through the weigh in process / take a picture with my kid : /

Grass is coming back pretty strong at Lake Austin from what I am hearing. It is a tough lake to fish for me but I have had some really good days there before. And some terrible days. Hopefully the grass coming back will help.

I can verify that the grass is coming back at least in the upper part of the lake as I fished there yesterday. I stayed on the upper lake. Mostly milfoil that is growing but I did see a little bit of hydrilla floating so it is there as well. Crazy windy yesterday but did manage to catch 15-20 fish. Nothing huge but would have been a limit of keepers. Really nice to see the vegetation coming back in that lake finally!

Here’s some recent information about Lake Travis:

State Golf Championship:
The Lake Travis boys golf team secured their fifth state championship in school history. This victory ended Westlake’s impressive six-year winning streak. The championship was held under foggy conditions at White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown, Texas. The Cavaliers’ last state title was in 2011.

Water Levels and Flooding:
Lake Travis experienced a dramatic change in water levels due to heavy rain. After suffering from severe drought throughout the summer, the lake received up to 8 inches of rain, causing water levels to leap by 5 feet. Boat launch ramps had previously closed due to low water levels, revealing hidden pecan groves and an abandoned concrete plant. However, the recent rain led to a steady rise in water levels, reaching 632 feet as of the latest update. The flooding of the Llano River contributed to this increase, prompting the opening of floodgates at Wirtz Dam and Max Starcke Dam, resulting in a rush of water pouring into Lake Travis. Despite this improvement, the lake remains 8 feet below 2022 water levels and nearly 30 feet below those in 2021. More rain is needed for a full recovery.

Recovery Efforts:
Unfortunately, not all news has been positive. A recent water rescue mission turned into a recovery effort for two swimmers who went missing on Lake Travis.

Boat and Jet Ski Crash:
Another incident involved a boat and jet ski collision on Lake Travis, resulting in one fatality and several others being hospitalized. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene.

While Lake Travis has seen both triumphs and challenges, its water levels remain a topic of concern. Let’s hope for continued improvements and safety on the lake!
