I have an 18ft Ranger bass boat with a 1998 Evinrude FICT fuel injection motor and I just replaced the 2, 14 gallon fuel tanks with 1, 25 gallon fuel tank and my motor dies occasionally just after getting on a plane. I replaced the entire gas tank, pickup assy, all hoses, anti-siphon valve, gas squeeze bulb. Every now and again after pushing the throttle WOT to get on a plane the boat will die shortly after getting on a plane. I noticed the little gas squeeze bulb isn't full at all when it dies, I squeeze it until its hard then then motor will fire up and I can keep on going. My mechanic tested the fuel pump and he said it's a bit noisy but is working and in specs and he didn't have an issues.

I noticed the way I routed the hoses from the fuel pick up to the water separator to the fuel bulb is lower then the fuel level in the gas tank. Would that cause an issue or does this sound more like a fuel pump intermittently going out?

Every single time the motor dies the gas bulb is empty, I squeeze it till its full then it starts up and I can keep on going. Today was the first time it happened twice in the same day, normally it may happen once every few trips and I'd like to get this taken care of before it leaves me stranded but I've taken it in twice and they can't find anything.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Anyone got any ideas? I'm thinkin it's probably suckin up air through the fuel lines but not sure how to troubleshoot this if I'm driving. I heard you can install a clear tube just after the gas primer bulb but again, If I'm drivin I don't think I'd be able to see if air bubbles are in the line as this only seems to happen at WOT, Or just after once I get on a plane.

My issue was a clogged fuel line from running ethanol gas. Replacing it solved my exact same problem.
