For those of you that have a trailer for your kayak, would you prefer a small jetski trailer or more of a flat style trailer so you can haul other things as well?

I dont use a trailer often for kayaks. Mostly just down to the coast. Mine is a 12ft utility trailer. I don't use it to launch my kayak though.

Whichever has the better hubs, axle, and wheels.

I have a flat 5x8 utility trailer. I’ll rarely use it for things other than the kayak.

I went with a jetski but converted it to a carpeted flat trailer. I have a Native Titan and it works out perfect. My buddy has a double jetski trailer and did the same with his and we travel together with both kayaks on it, he has a 136 ap.

Mine is an old flat bottom boat trailer.[Linked Image]

It’s a work in progress, but I think I just about have it dialed in. I bought it with a bill of sale only. I have a bonded title now, and it’s tagged, too! Talk about a PITA!! In the future, I won’t buy a trailer that isn’t already registered!!!

The tongue was twisted when I bought it, and I replaced the 3” X 3” tubing, adding some length to it. My kayak is the Jackson Kraken 15.5 foot.

The fun is just beginning!

Modified jet ski trailer or Malone specific type. Either needs to be rated to submerge and have at least 12" wheels IMHO. I had a Harbor Freight trailer and was sadly disappointed.
I avoid trailers if at all possible, too much hassle and kayak fishing was meant to be simple means to get on the water

I agree, kayaking is supposed to be simple...throw in truck or top of car and go. Now, this would all change if was sponsored and fishing tournaments.

I do like the set up from Split Cane Rod!!!

Yeah. When I was in my twenties and thirties, I would put my Wilderness Ride on top of my Grand Cherokee and go. I’ll be able to get on Medicare this November. I fished all day yesterday and today on my Jackson Kraken, and I didn’t pull or strain anything loading it on my trailer.

That thing is awkward hanging out the backend of a pickup, I don’t care how long the bed is. I hope and pray that every one of you get to the age where you think twice about hoisting your kayak onto the roof of your vehicle.

That trailer is about as simple as it gets. I gave $200 for it, and I’ve put maybe that much more into it. Each to his own, and if you want to toss your kayak into the bed of your truck or on top of your vehicle, then be my guest. This old man is gonna trailer mine.
