This combo is a little heavy for most eater size fish, but should work fine for most people. Should handle a larger fish if it hits. Not sure of the price - guessing in the $80 range? Not high end for someone that fishes a lot, but not the cheapest thing at walmart either.

Good luck!

A country boy will survive... but those who cross him?

It depends. If you’re fishing for bigger fish it’s probably not a bad setup. If you’re fishing for channels and smaller blues during the spawn then it’s beyond overkill. My catfish gear consists of heavy duty gear for fishing big flatheads with live bait and then I just use either my spring sandbass/hybrid gear or my inshore gear. Basically an 8’ medium action rod with 6-8lb test, a bobber, some split shot, and a small J or octopus hook is all I need. Unless I’m Flathead fishing.

That will work! Like the others said maybe heavy for eaters, it will work just not as sporty, but if you are fishing for something bigger it should be pretty sweet.

I think shimano should stop taking themselves so seriously and print "Fishing For Fun" on the side of their reels as well.
