More of a bass angler here but my son has been wanting to go catch some cats and wanted to know if anybody here knew of some good bank spots preferably around Waxahachie or Ellis county area. Would travel around the DFW area if worth it though. Any spots ya know and what y’all prefer for bait would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Look at the Bardwell lake post. Fresh shad can't be beat but you'll need a cast net. You should be able to net some shad right now really early in the morning. I would try throwing on a boat ramp right at daybreak or from a courtesy dock next to one. If you've never thrown one, get a fairly small one. They're pretty easy to learn with. If you don't want to do that, you can probably get away with fresh shrimp. Don't waste your time with the crappy bait shrimp that most bait stores sell. Go to the grocery store and get fresh shrimp.

Just to piggyback on this response. Fresh is best. If you don't want to mess with a cast net, find a nearby Asian market and buy a fresh buffalo or carp. I recently bought a fresh buff at the store and didn't even have them prepare it. I sliced and diced it myself and had plenty of bait for 2 days of fishing.

You know of any Asian markets near there? Nothing in that general area. Closest one to where I am in Midlothian is in Grand Prairie off Pioneer and Great Southwest. They carry buffalo, mackerel, carp etc.
