Apparently, I suck so bad at catching catfish, that I can't even catch them at Tawakoni. Fished on Saturday from about 9:30 until around 2 and caught 1 fish but there was a couple sitting about 50 yards from me that caught at least a dozen while I was there. Really bad part is, that I was using the same bait that they were and that was Danny Kings punch bait in the same flavor. I also had live pearch, 3 types of Danny Kings, cut bait and shrimp and chicken livers. Didn't really even get many bites to speak of. As someone said to me last year "If you can't catch catfish at Tawakoni, then you should just quit". Guess I should just quit then because Twak has humbled me every time I have been there.

I catch fish all the time while people next to me catch nothing. It could be because I am fishing a hole I have chummed for 30 years, but I like to think it is just because I am a great angler. roflmao If someone is catching next to you, you may want to move. You may be in the wrong water depth, in an area without good structure or that has other issues. We all have days where we donโ€™t catch fish. Just keep fishing and try new things till you figure it out. hooked

My uncle just came back from fishing Hubbard for 4 hours at the 2 spots that we planned to fish tomorrow and he didn't get one bite, so I guess we will venture back to Twak and just keep looking until we find them. Or not. Lol

Are you in a boat or fishing from bank?

If a boat, castnet some fresh Shad and go to a windy shoreline and look for herons on the bank. The herons are there because bait is there, the blues will be with the bait. You will catch a few channels also but it will be mainly blues right now. Ditch the stink bait and use fresh bait

We are bank fishing and once again got throttled by Tawakoni ! Got there at 7:30, put out 9 rods with 7 different bait and did not catch one fish. Even threw out range cubs and put some soured grain in a nylon stocking with a rock in it and threw it out as far as I could and still nothing. Had Danny Kings original and blood punch bait, live perch cut perch, cut shiner(had 2 about 10" long), chicken liver and shrimp. Guess we should stop fishing for cats at Tawakoni.

Fish a wind blown area. Shallow close to deep. Rocks, timber, is a plus. Put some baits deep and some shallow. Use Shad, Buffalo, Drum, or Perch. Forget all that other stuff. On those deeper rigs, throw a 3-way on and use 3oz+ sinkers. Get it out there. It's all about fishing where there are feeding catfish. 100 yards can make a difference. Or 50, in your case.

Your casting to far if fishing from bank..as mentioned above best if you can find a bank that the wind
Is blowing in to you ..get there right before sun up ..if you can get fresh shad that's the best if not
chicken breast or $5 dollar bag frozen shrimp with strawberry or cherry Kool aid or jello applied the night before.
Put on 4/0 circle hook. Or Danny Kings punch bait, or stubbys cheese bait on a treble hook. All the above
fish with slip cork set at 2 1/2 ft and fish in 3 to 5 ft water. Not far from bank. And if there are any weed
growing in that area or willow trees cast close as you can to them.

Went to Tawakoni again last evening, got there at 5:05 and tried all of the above mentioned with even some dough balls cast out for carp and still did not catch one dang fish ! Saw someone leaving that had been fishing near where I went that had 6 or 8 channels on a stringer so there are some fish there anyway. Guess I will try my luck somewhere else. I know another lake that you can drift fish on in summer and just get destroyed .

Looks like another trip to Tawakoni after church on Sunday, may not catch anything but at least I will be fishing.

Couple weekends ago I put my kayak in at Two Mile and worked the western shore line south of the bridge. Fishing with fresh caught shad and live minnows I couldn't keep the smaller blues off my line. I was looking for crappie. Went a little deeper looking for white and yellow bass and still couldn't get away from them. Shad are spawning in the morning, work those shallows and you'll find em.
