We were thinking about putting a solar powered fish feeder to drop some kind of food to attract bait fish to our pier. Ideally solar powered. Is this a good idea? Any recommendations?
Least expensive thing I saw was Moultrie MFG-13282 $80 but kinda mediocre reviews.

Moultrie is ok but they don't keep moisture out of the hopper very well. Feed will clump up and jam the motor eventually. Filling it more frequently with less feed helps. Texas Hunter and Sweeney are best but extremely expensive. Think the inconvenience fee is worth the huge price savings. Will definitely draw bigger bluegills to your spot.
Bluegill, Redear, Hybrid Coppernose, Gizzard Shad and Threadfins. Rainbows in winter, Crawfish in early spring, Tilapia late spring. No catfish and no rough fish. Repeat. And of course pure Florida bass.

I had two Sweenys, it seems like they are forever. My limited experience is that feeders become a catfish feeding frenzy.
Mud cat was our experience with a few big blues mixed in.

Moultrie has been great for me. Battery lasts several months and it holds about 45 pounds of pellets. I run it 4 times a day for a second and I added a button so I can manually activate it. Lots of channels hanging out.
