I've just used the group 27 lead acid marine battery from walmart for my starting and trolling batteries. They are 750 cranking amps with 109 amp hours. Works for about 4-5 years. Unless your motor needs 1000 cca, these are just fine.

Either Dual purpose or cranking. I don't think you can use a true deep cycle for a starting battery. At least not for very long.

Starting battery only. And I only use Walmart batteries. It doesn't matter where or when, there is a Walmart.

I use the walmart Everstart Maxx Marine 29DC for both the starting battery and trolling motor batteries. It has 845 cranking amps and will run the livewells and electronics all day and still start up just fine at the end of the day. Been using them for 10 years (not the same ones of course)
Best value out there at $119.

I ran Walmart Ever Start Marine Deep Cycle Batteries since way before there were AGM's and Lithium's. They are by far the best bang for the buck for a lead acid battery. I've ran Interstate, Continental, and AC Delco deep cycle batteries. The only batteries out of that bunch were the Continentals that lasted as long as the Ever Starts, they just cost more. If you can go Lithium a 50 AH Lithium is probably still going to outperform any lead acid battery based on some of the numbers I've seen.
