Lake Buchanan, located in Burnet and Llano Counties, Texas, is the largest of the first four Highland Lakes in Central Texas. Here are some key details about Lake Buchanan:

Size: Lake Buchanan covers 22,333 acres (34.9 square miles) and has a length of 30 miles. It also boasts an impressive 124 miles of shoreline.

Formation: The lake was artificially created upon the completion of Buchanan Dam in 1938. The dam, over 2 miles long, was constructed by the Lower Colorado River Authority to provide water supply and hydroelectric power for the region.

Fish Species: Lake Buchanan is stocked with several fish species for recreational fishing, including largemouth bass, catfish, white bass, and striped bass.

Recreational Uses: While much of the property around the lake is privately owned, there are lakeside cottages and homes available for rent. Visitors can enjoy boating, fishing, and leisure activities near Austin.

Whether you’re an angler or simply seeking a peaceful lakeside retreat, Lake Buchanan offers a beautiful natural setting to explore!

It finally rained in the right place. Up 3' and rising. The river is still flowing at a great pace. Hopefully we will hit at least 1000'. Can't wait to get up there this week and see it for myself.
Great start but it looks like it might still take hurricane remnants to get her full.

Just looked at the LCRA Hydromet. The Flows are still strong out in Mills Cnty. Our ranch is on the Colorado and looks like we had about a 25ft rise. It will take about 2 1/2 days for that water to start hitting hit Buchanan . We are gonna see a good little rise
