These goofball carpenter ants seemed to have a disagreement on what to do with one of their larvae. It could easily be carried by a single ant, but there were a bunch of them trying to pull it in different directions. I had time to go get my camera, rig it for handheld macro with flash, and return - and they were still in the same place all pulling as hard as they could and getting nowhere.

I believe those are Acrobat Ants, wood infesting not wood destroying ! Great close ups.

After looking at it a bit, I think you're correct. Great to know - thanks!

"Members of this genus are also known as cocktail ants because of their habit of raising their abdomens when alarmed." - I've seen this bunch doing this. And they have the spines seen in other photos also.
