Looking into getting lithium batteries. I like the Ionic warranty. Any one have good, bad experiences with them? Cheaper equivalent? Pros and cons over 1 36v trolling battery versus 3 12v batteries? Thank you!

A good friend has had Ionics in his boat for a cou0le of years with no issues. I made the switch to them about 6 months ago. I love them. They have been excellent.

Did you go with one for trolling or three?

There are a ton of cheap lithium’s that have BMS I’d go the cheap route first.

I have a Skeeter ZXR20 with Livescope and M360. I have 3ea 12" graphs and an Ultrex 112. Initially I assumed I needed 3ea 100ah trolling batteries and 1ea of the 125ah for starting battery as well as an Ionic charger. I contacted Drewcraft on BBC as he was highly recommended as a dealer. After speaking with him he told me 3ea 50ah batteries trolling batteries would be fine. He also said my Minn Kota charger woukd charge all 4 Ionics just fine. He was 100% correct. He could have easily uphold me but instead saved me some cash as I went into expecting to buy the 100ah batteries abd charger.

I stay on the TM and cover a lot of water on most trips. I often fish 8-12hrs. Rarely am I below 75%. I can fish multiple days without charging if need be. I saved a ton of weight in the boat and it did not negatively affect tve way tve boat handles at all.

Glad I switched. The cost was not bad at all. I was due for new batteries any way. Basically if they last another 3-5 years when I would be swapping conventional batteries out again I will break even price wise.basically got these for about what 2 sets of conventional batteries cost. I really like the extra advantages and performance in addition as well abd with the Ionic warranty being so long I have no regrets. I chose Ionic as my outboard and electronics cost way too much to take a chance with an unproven brand or something off Amazon.

I put 3 50 ah ionic and a new AGM for the Merc Opti in Sept. 2023. Can fish 2 day club tournaments without charging. I'm on the trolling motor (Ghost) most of the day. Ionics are around 72% after the 2 days. Only problem I've had was with to ionic charger, but they replaced at no charge. My Triton 21x (2004) does handle differently but not a big problem.

Was one of the first to go with three 50ah Ionics on a 36 volt Ultrex.
He made me a VERY good deal on them with the agreement if they wouldn't stand up to a FULL day of fishing in the West Texas wind, I could trade up to the 100 ah. Six years later they have performed great.
Only upside I can see with 3 12's over a single 36 might be if one ever did quit you could always stick any old 12 volt in while on the road. Also, the 3 50's fit my forward mounted battery compartment very well.

Going on 3 years now with Ionics. 3 50’s for my tm and a 125 for cranking and all my electronics. I run 3 Helix 12’s with a mega 360 networked and a 12” Garmin with live scope. Things still amaze me every time I go out.

You’ll only find a lithium cranker in a name brand. For the TM it doesn’t matter the brand (unless you buy a refurb and it’s a pos)

1 36v is definitely more convenient, until it’s not. You’re not finding a 36v charger on a Friday night or spare battery at Walmart.

I have 3 50s ionics for TM. 125ah ionic for cranking. 100 ah powerhouse 16 volt for electronics. Can fish all day in the wind and still have over 50 percent on my triple 50ahs. I kept my stock minkota charger which is why I think it’s inconvenient going with the 36. I have a 125 for cranking battery- it’s completly overkill since all it does is crank the engine and run livewells but I used to have it for cranking and electronics- problem was with 4 graphs,360 and livescope after about 7 hours my voltage would drop a bit and it effected my clarity slightly. Now I have a 16 volt power house as a dedicated electronics battery with a run n gun charger piggy backing off my 125ah ionic turning my 4th bank on my battery charger into actually a 5th.

The system is flawless. The amount of clarity you get with 16 volts is incredible. Yea it’s a decent amount of money on 5 lithium batteries but we also throw 100 dollar baits. Isn’t what it is. I like my set up. It’s clean, light, chit ton of power and flawless so far. It also charges in just a few hours.

Only way a 16v battery is giving you a better picture is if your graph wiring is cr@p and the extra volts is compensating for it. Been proven time and time again that more voltage doesn't equate to better picture. All graphs are internally regulated so as long as you have correct wiring and proper battery voltage thats all you need. I've ran my Ionic 125a into the 30% range and still have great resolution on my graphs.

I went with 3 Impulse Lithium 12V 60AH Standard Series LiFePO4 Lithium Batteries... No bluetooth for $399 a piece... I charge them after every use so I don't need an telling me what % my batteries are at. I spoke with the owner and he advised treating like any other trolling motor battery and charge them after every time out... Dan
