I’ve fished Texoma my whole life and knew they stocked walleye back in the 70’s-80’s, would not have guessed they could reproduce in the lake. Yet they show the lake record was caught in 2021. Guess I need to spend more time graphing the deepest waters.
I would be interested to knowing the background on that record. One catch does not indicate they are breeding in the lake. There are lots of unique fish records on the books and the fish are not breeding in the lake where they are caught. It is a very interesting record.
They also have a red bellied pacu record, in the mid 90’s while fishing for stripper my dad caught a fish that had pretty big teeth and looked to us like a piranha. Looking back that’s probably what he caught.
Caught 2 from Texoma. One on a Texas rig around the islands in 1974 and the other at mouth of Mill Creek on Bayou Bougie in 1976. Both around 2 1/2 lbs. The Pottsboro Sportsman’s Club put them in around 69-70.
Some people go to church and think about fishing. Some go fishing and think about God.
I would think a 20-year-old walleye would be 5 lbs.+ and 30+ inches, just saying...I fished Ft Peck a lot, never seen 5 lb. walleye either in that lake...oddity in the lake?:
Apparently there are several species in Texoma with teeth. A few months back one of my customers pulled in a fish that had a mouth full of pointed teeth that looked like small shark teeth. It only had a single row though. The fish was long and skinny and silver. The body reminded me of a salt water skip jack. I had never seen anything like it come out of fresh water.
